Hiram E. Leonard Diary September 9 - 15, 1874
“9th Wednesday fine hot dry weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with rheumatism thurmometer has been at from 90 to one hundred 100 every day this week.
“10th Thursday A fine hot dry dusty day I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ with a cold & rheumatism Folks went to the Fair at Aurora with Joseph D Hawbecker he went with both stages & carried full loads The photographs man came here with his waggon, thurmometer from 90 to 100.
“11th Friday fine hot dry weather I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold & rheumatism Caroline went to Naperville & got some chairs & Will pants.
“12th Saturday fine hot dry weather I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold & rheumatism Mrs Jewel had a daughter today Photoger man went to Downers Grove home tonight.
“13th Sunday A warm cloudy day & looked like rain I did my choars was round home the most of the day went to bed about 9 nearly sick.
“14th Monday fine weather & pretty warm I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold etc Elder Samuel Lehman died this morning about 2 oclock.
“15th Tuesday fine warm weather & rather dry I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.”
