Hiram E. Leonard Diary, September 16 - 22, 1874
“16th Wednesday fine warm dry weather signs of rain I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ rheumatis some showers at night & during the night I got a letter & draft from Fitch Phelps today noon Degarior? picture man came.
“17th Thursday Some rain squalls during the day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ sick with rheumatism Jerry F Pollard went to Aurora & Henry Wyman with him came back pretty tight & D Keynon at home all day about the same.
“18th Friday A pretty fine day till towards night when we had a shower at milking time & rained during the night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with the rheumatism Hough was here today Mrs Laura Lewis was here all the afternoon.
“19th Saturday rain squalls in the morning wind blew all day & grew cold a cold night I did my choars was round the office all day closed up about 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with cold.
“20th Sunday A cold pleasant morning I did my choars was round home the most of the day writing etc went to bed about 9 nearly sick thurmometer down to 40 this morning I picked a peach basket of peaches off of a little tree today.
“21st Monday fine for the season, but some cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold & the rheumatism Circuit Court commenced today & Judge H H Cody took his seat on the bench.
“22nd Tuesday rather a fine day some cloudy & squally I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with the rheumatism Hough the Deguar here Caroline went to Naperville.”
