Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 29 - April 4, 1871
“29th Wednesday fine weather but cool I did my choars was a choaring round the office & house all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 sick D Kenyon, Mrs Anesworth her sister Mrs Wall & Caroline went to Naperville with Charley Barrus.
“30th Thursday fine pleasant weather but cool I did my choars was round the house & office a choaring all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick Mrs Wall went home from Kenyon [in margin] Dady & Connell cut wood.
“31st Friday A fine cool pleasant day I did my choars choared round the office etc all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 about sick Jerry Dady finished my wood set up some posts for clothes lines D Connell cut wood ½ a day Emma Stone came from Wheaton & stayed here.
“April 1st Saturday A fine pleasant cool day I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring & makeing out my quarterly returns & closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick, Charles Barrus carried Caroline & Emma Stone to Naperville.
“2nd Sunday A fine cool pleasant day & roads a getting pretty good, I did my choars was round home the most of the day went to Barruses in the afternoon a while came back went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick I did not go to Barruses but Caroline went [in margin] Mrs Scovil taken sick.
“3rd Monday A fine pleasant day & a getting dry I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick Caroline went to Barruses.
“4th Tuesday rather fine weather but dry I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] baby sick.”
