Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 20 - 26, 1870
“20th Wednesday A fine hot day very hot I did my choars was round the store all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with the heat [in margin] Mrs Stone came to work.
“21st Thursday A fine & verry hot day, a getting dry I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with the heat [in margin] Mrs Stone here.
“22nd Friday A fine & verry hot day, I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with the heat, Mrs Beardsly & Emma her daughter was here a visiting Mrs Stone here to work.
“23rd Saturday A fine & verry hot day & night I did my choars was round the office all day a choars cloesed up at 8 ½ and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with heat [in margin] Mrs Stone here.
“24th Sunday a hot & some cloudy day I did my choars went to farm & got some milk came back & eat breckfust choared some wrote some etc took a nap in afternoon & choared round some went to bed about 9 nearly sick & tiered out with the heat Simeon Billings 3 son born today [in margin thurm ranged from 90 to 100.
“25th Monday A fine day verry hot from 90 to 100 I did my choars was round the office all day & choaring round cloased up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with heat.
“26th Tuesday fine hot weather & a getting dry, from 90 to 100 I did my choars choared round the office & house all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with heat [in margin] Mrs Stone work here.”
