Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 27 - August 2, 1870
“27th Wednesday fine hot dry weather from 9[0] to 100 I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round I did close up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & tired out with heat.
“28th Thursday fine hot dry weather from 90 to 100, I did my choars was at the office & round all day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & tiered out with heat.
“29th Friday A fine day & more cool with a good air I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick & worne out Dr Pratt came & coxed Mrs Stone to go work for him commence a Sunday night or Monday morning.
“30th Saturday A fine day with a cool air I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring & cloased up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out Mrs Stone left today [in margin] Mrs Stone quit today Besie came to Jerry Pollards from Vermont.
“31st Sunday A fine day & pretty hot I did my choars was round the house all day writing etc took a nap etc went to bed at 9 about nearly sick.
“August 1st Monday A fine pleasant & pretty hot day I did my choars was round home all day a choaring round the office etc closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with the heat Mrs Stone went to work for Dr Pratt at Wheaton [in margin] red Yearling heifer went to bull.
“2nd Tuesday rather a fine day & pretty warm I did my choars was at the office & round all day choared some etc closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with heat [in margin] Z Jones quite sick.”
