Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 21 - 27, 1870
“21 Wednesday a pretty cold day & night I did my choars was round the office all day choaring closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] Snows wife killed him tonight with a hammer Capt Snow.
“22nd Thursday A cold morning & day the thurmometer stood 23 degrees below zero in morning I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick cold winter weather.
“23rd Friday pretty cold winter weather the first real winter weather we have had this winter cold I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out & about sick.
“24th Saturday A cold day & night but rather more fine that 2 days before I did my choars was round the office all day choaring etc, closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick G Pelham & wife were at Kenyons to supper & Caroline & I went up and eat supper about 2 ½ oclock came back as soon as we got through.
“25th Sunday A cold snow squally day but not as cold as yesterday I did my choars was round home all day choaring fixing duck pen etc got the into it etc wrote some & went to bed at 9 about sick & tiard out Mrs Anesworth here.
“26th Monday fine winter weather some snow I did my choars was at the office all day choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.
“27th Tuesday fine winter weather I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 sick.”
