Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 31 - April 6, 1875
“31st Wednesday fine March weather I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick wit the rheumatism Mrs French died today.
“April 1st Thursday rather windy & cool today I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed sick with a cold & the rheumatism.
“2nd Friday rather fine weather for the season I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 with the rheumatism & a cold Mrs French was buried at the Big Woods today Elder Cooper preached.
“3rd Saturday Sprinkled in morning but fine after 10 I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism Rosa Rogers had a daughter at about 10 oclock tonight all right.
“4th Sunday A fine day for the season but some cloudy I did my choars was round home all day writing & choaring some went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold Rosa Tart & husband came up.
“5th Monday fine weather for the seasson I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold.
“6th Tuesday A fine pleasant day & the roads pretty good I was at home all forenoon went in afternoon to Town meeting at the Junction I did my choars closed up at 8 &went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism A T Jones elected assessor Joseph D Hawbecker elected collector John Demming went to the Junction today & then to Aurora.”
