Hiram E. Leonard Diary, May 20 - 26, 1874
“20th Wednesday rather cool for the season I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ¼ nearly sick with the rheumatism [in margin] there was a hard frost this morning.
“21 Thursday rather cold but a growing time I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with rheumatism Caroline got home from Iowa about 5 oclock PM walked down from Winfield and Allace McNellis was with her. we had a frost in morning.
“22nd Friday A cool morning but a fine day I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ sick with the rheumatism.
“23rd Saturday A fine warm growing day I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at about 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with rheumatism Caroline Willa & Alice went to Naperville in the stage and back George Sidwell went in the stage & cars to Aurora this afternoon.
“24th Sunday A cloudy misty day & had rained last night I did my choars went to the farm & back varnished one counter wrote some etc went to bed about 9 oclock nearly sick with the rheumatism Lezer Stone & Jane McKellilps went to Naperville & got married.
“25th Monday fine weather for the season I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick George Sidwell came back from Aurora today & 4 PM in stage.
“26th Tuesday fine hot growing weather I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.”
