Hiram E. Leonard Diary, September 26 - October 2, 1872
“26th Thursday A cloudy damp day I did my choars choared round some closed up about 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold a heavey frost [in margin] first frost.
“27th Friday A cold pleasant day with a heavey frost I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ about sick.
“28th Saturday A cool cloudy day & began to rain about 3 oclock was a cold rainey night I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 and went to bed about 9 ½.
“29th Sunday A cold cloudy misty morning & cold windy day I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with a cold Emma Stone & Frenches girle went to Naperville to commence school.”
“30th Monday rather fine but some cloudy I did my choars choared round some all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick & worne out Emma Anesworth came down & carried her things up to her fathers.
“October 1st Tuesday rather a fine day for Oct, I did my choars choared round some all day closed up at 8 and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.
“2nd Wednesday rather fine weather I did my choars choared round all day a making out my Post Office returns closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick Ed McFerrans wife had a child.”
