Hiram E. Leonard Diary, August 16 - 22, 1871
“16th Wednesday A fine pleasant day with a cool air I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out [in margin] Jessee Graves came to D Kenyons today about 11 ½ & was carried in to the house.
“17th Thursday fine weather for the season & dry I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.
“18th Friday A fine pleasant day & dry I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiared out.
“19th Saturday A fine hot dry day I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiared out [in margin] Manning had a great day at his store had grapes peaches, cider lemonade etc & gave presents to all that traded 5 dollars.
“20th Sunday I did my choars drove my cow to the farm cut some thissles etc came back eat breckfust & put up some wine after scalding the judgs, called at D Kenyons etc went to bed at 9 nearly sick [in margin] I got my sow home from J Tarts tonight & 5 piggs.
“21st Monday A fine pleasant day & dry I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick got sow & pigs from Tarts.
“22nd Tuesday fine dry hot weather I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out [in margin] Ben Paver dug celler ½ day.”
