Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 21 - 27, 1871
“21st Wednesday some cloudy damp day but growing weather I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 about sick Jonas K Ball found ded in his house just as he was carried in last night.
“22nd Thursday fine weather but some cloudy I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 about sick Jonas K Ball was buried at Naperville Mrs Bliss a selling off her house en goods.
“23rd Friday Some cloudy & misty & muddy I did my choars was choaring round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 about sick They met at church to see about picknick tomorrow.
“24th Saturday A cloudy damp disagreeable day & some muddy I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick there was a Sunday School picknick on A Gates farm but there were not a full compliment there as it was damp Some went & came back saying there were non there the waggon that had the schollars in broak down & they did not go, it was rather a faint affair there had been some trouble with Perry & Warner [in margin] Sunday School picknick at Asel Gates Grove.
“25th Sunday A cloudy damp disagreeable day I did my choars was round the house the most of the day went up to farm & got some cherrys came back & did my choars & went to bed about 9 nearly sick & tiard.
“26th Monday rather fine weather I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring I did my choars closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.
“27th Tuesday fine weather but some cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 about sick.”
