Hiram E. Leonard Diary, May 31 - June 6, 1871
“31st Wednesday verry fine growing weather I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out [in margin] thurmometer at 100.
“June 1st Thursday A fine growing day & verry hot the thurmometer rose to about 100 degrees I did my choars choared round the office the most of the day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick.
“2nd Friday A fine growing hot day I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out They had a dance at Mulnix shop tonight, the Hoyt shoe shop it was.
“3rd Saturday A fine hot pleasant day with some clouds toward night, the thurmometer has rainged at about 100, above zero the most of this week I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick.
“4th Sunday A fine hot morning but cloudy we had a thunder shower about 9 with some pretty heavey thunder & sharp lightning, it rained hard and rained conciderable the most of the rest of the day a fine rain I did my choars drove my cow to the paster & was at home the rest of the day a choaring round & wrote some went to bed at 9.
“5th Monday fine growing weather & plenty wet I did my choars was at the office all day choaring etc closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out.
“6th Tuesday A damp misty day & growing time I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring etc closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] William Carpenter, Sarah Jane, Meriam Bird & Neta Fowler started for Rockford buggy.”
