Hiram E. Leonard Diary, September 7 - 13, 1870
“7th Wednesday fine weather & verry hot for the season I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick etc [in margin] thrumometer at 90.
“8th Thursday some clouds & verry hot for Sept, I did my choars was round office all day a choaring etc closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick & lonely, Milton Elsworth, J M Warren & Joseph Hudson appraised the goods & chattles of the estate of W W Jones deceased [in margin] 90 degrees.
“9th Friday A cloudy & some rainey day I did my choars was at the office a choaring all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick got a letter from Caroline.
“10th Saturday A fine pleasant day I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out, I sent a letter to Caroline, Mrs Stone came down to moove her things into Kenyons shop & she & Nelson stayed to my house all night.
“11th Sunday A fine cool pleasant day I did my choars went to the farm & got some things for breckfust Mrs Stone & Nelson were a mooving She came & got breckfust we eat & she finished moving & come & got dinner about 3 oclock Nelson was at supper Perry carried her to Wheaton towards night.
“12th Monday rather a fine pleasant day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out, verry lonely.
“13th Tuesday fine weather some cloudy I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out a doing my own cooking, am lonely [in margin] Mrs Barrus went to Jane Strickland.”
