Hiram E. Leonard Diary, February 24 - March 1, 1870
“24th Thursday fine winter weather I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick, Frank Hammond sold my 4 chickens to J D Perry for one dollar.
“25th Friday A pretty fine day I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.
“26th Saturday A cloudy damp day with several showers & some pretty hard thunder showers in evening I did my choars was at the office all day came home between 8 & 9 and went to bed about 10 nearly sick with trouble, Mr Grant saw my 4 chickings up to John D Perrys & told me & I went up to Perry with Grant & see them Perry bought them of Frank Hammond & Hammond said he bought them of Olin Resseguie & Olin said they came up to his house I went up by Perrys & got my 4 chickings in the evening.
“27th Sunday A cloudy damp muddy day & rained & spit snow some a disagreeable day I did my choars was at home the most of the day a choaring round etc went to office in evening came home & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick.
“28th Monday rather a fine day for March I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick & worne out, Olin Resseguie came & owned to me that he took my chickins from my stable a Sunday night a week ago last Sunday night carried 2 at a time twice making 4 chickins & then took 8 chickings over to Frank Hammond.
“March 1st Tuesday rather fine weather but cool I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.”
