Hiram E. Leonard Diary, October 26 - November 1, 1870
“26th Wednesday A fine morning but cloudy & rained in afternoon I choared round at the store closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick Griffeth worked in forenoon & went home about one oclock did not get my eye spout fixed.
“27th Thursday A cloudy damp morning & looked like rain but broak away along in forenoon & was a fine day & a beautiful evening wind blew pretty hard all day I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 about sick etc Darius Bartholomew & Anna Lehman was married today they went to Aurora & got married came back about 2 ½ & Bish & family went up to supper.
“28th Friday A fine day. I did my choars was round office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out Griffeth work & closed off my stair Emma Stone came to Jont Pollards.
“29th Saturday rather a fine day but cool & some ________ & sprinkled in & rained conciderable before Sunday I did my choars choared round closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick A mass convention held at Naperville Whitney was nominated for the legislature, John Kline for sheriff & Doct Daniels for coriner Nelson Stone stayed all night L York & T Pelham here.
“30th Sunday A cloudy rainey forenoon rained pretty hard till near one oclock when it broak away I did my choars & choared round the most of the day & went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick.
“31st Monday rather a cloudy morning but rather a fine day I did my choars was round the office a choaring all day closed up at about 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick.
“November 1st Tuesday A fine day & evening I did my choars was round the office the most of the a chaoring, cloased up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick Jane Balys babe died [in margin] Jane Baly child died went back to Wheaton with Perry.”
