Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 22 - 28, 1874

22nd Wednesday  A fine & verry hot dry day  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ sick with the rheumatism.

23rd Thursday  A fine hot dry day verry dry  I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 at went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with the rheumatism [in margin] thurmometer at 100.

24th Friday  A fine & verry hot dry day   I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with rheumatism  the thurmometer stood at 102 degrees above zero the most of the day extremely hot dry weather all the season.

25th Saturday  A verry hot dry day the hottest day we have had since I can remember  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold etc  thurmometer stood at from 104 to 110 in the afternoon it has been the hottest week that I have known since I have lived in the state  Lezer Stone & the most of the boys were at Pete Hinze till late.

26th Sunday  A fine hot dry day with a fine air I did my choars was round home all day went to bed at 9 oclock about sick etc  the thurmometer stood at 96 etc in middle of d grew more cool towards night and was a fine cool night.

27th Monday  fine dry hot weather  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold  J M Warren got home from the East tonight, Frank Wellman went in to Chicago with George Sidwell tonight  George was agoing to Montreall.

28th Tuesday  fine dry weather & more cool  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick etc.”
