HIram E. Leonard Diary, May 6 - 12, 1874
“6th Wednesday fine pleasant weather but cold I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick sick with a cold Watson planted corn on my lot.
“7th Thursday More warm & pleasant I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold George a cleaning store [in margin] Watson planted corn.
“8th Friday A fine day & quite warm I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring etc George was sick and did nothing closed up at 8 & went to bed nearly 10 Emma Barrus came in the stage from Naperville & on the cars from Bristol where she had worked George Sick Cummings came up to Rogers today.
“9th Saturday A fine warm pleasant day I did my choars was round the office painting & choaring George painted the Post Office he was about sick I signed J D Hawbeckers proposals to carry the mail Charles Barrus was here last night & tonight.
“10th Sunday A fine pleasant day but some closed towards noon & cooler I did my choars was round the office all day amost I went to bed about 9 nearly sick with a cold George sick I milk my cow for the last time & took her up to the farm this morning.
“11th Monday fine growing weather I did my choars was round the office all day George & I cleaning office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick etc School commenced today.
“12th Tuesday fine growing weather I did my choars was around the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick with a cold George & I were cleaning my store & painting it a little.”
