Hiram E. Leonard Diary, February 5 - 11, 1874

5th Thursday  fine winter weather but not much snow  I did my choars choared round some was at the office all day closed up about 9 ½ & went to bed about 10 tiard sick with a  cold  Emma Stone came from Gus McKellips to go to Chicago to see her Mother tomorrow.

6th Friday  Fine winter weather but poor sleighing  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick cold  Emma Stone went to Chicago. Edward Rogers drew one load wood for me Olin Resseguie went to Aurora with chicking & came home towards night & his horse ran away with him & hurt him pretty bad  Charles Barrus went to run by him.

7th Saturday  fine winter weather but snowed some  I did my choars choared round some closed up about 8 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick with a cold  Emma Stone came back from Chicago & brought her Mothers carpet from Danby & went to meeting in the evening.

8th Sunday  A fine winter day & verry desant sleighing but some cloudy & thawed conciderable  I did my choars was round home all day & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a  cold etc  Emma Stone nees here & went to meeting twice & went down to McKellips towards night with Hoys people when they went to Naperville to meeting.

9th Monday  fine mild winter weather & desant sleighing  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.

10th Tuesday  fine winter weather & mild  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed about 10 nearly sick with a cold near paralized  Doct B Coon died this morning at 4 oclock at St Charles, he fell of the sidewalk & hurt him  old Mr. Stephen Bronson died about this time.

11th Wednesday  pretty weather & poor sleighing  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed about 10 tierd & nearly sick with a  cold  Geroge Mack died this forenoon with fever, 3 more boys sick with the same fever.”
