Hiram E. Leonard Diary, August 28 - September 3, 1873
“28th Thursday fine dry hot weather I did my choars & choared round the office a little closed up about 8 ½ and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & tiered out.
“29th Friday A fine dry hot day & night I did my choars choared round the office some closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & tiered out.
“30th Saturday A fine dry hot day some cloudy & a light sprinkling towards night & in the evening I did my choars choared round some in office closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiered & nearly sick R B Pollards wife died about 4 oclock this morning R B Pollard came there today from Jones Emma Stone came up from Naperville with Stewart & lib McKellips.
“31st Sunday A cloudy morning & mostly during the day & verry hot with conciderable air stiring I did my choars went to the farm & fixed to stacking straw wrote some & choared round went to bed about 9 R B Pollards wife was buried today funeral at Branches house at 2 ½ PM Emma Stone went back to Naperville with Stewart & lib McKellip started this morning about 8 AM.
“September 1st Monday A fine day & pretty warm in the middle of the day verry dry for the season I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ tierd & nearly sick with headache etc.
“2nd Tuesday fine dry weather cool morning & evening but hot in middle of day I did my choars choared some round the office closed up about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick My red heafer went to the bull.
“3rd Wednesday fine dry weather I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & tiered out.”
