Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 17 - 23, 1873
“17th Thursday A fine day & a little more cool I did my choars choared round the office some closed up at 8 and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick Caroline & Emma came back about 7 in the evening Fredenhagen had a social hop at his new barn tonight They said there was from 30 to 50 cupple there & from 60 to 100 took supper, my calves were taken away today.
“18th Friday A pretty fine cool day with some clouds I did my choars choared round the office some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ sick I pumped out the water out of my well in the celler today worked conciderable.
“19th Saturday rather a fine cool day I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 and went to bed about 9 ½ or 10 nearly sick Caroline & Emma Stone road to Naperville with French this afternoon & footed it back the most of the way.
“20th Sunday A fine day but some cloudy I did my choars choared round some at the place & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick Frank Willson called here ___________.
“21st Monday pretty dry weather for the season but fine I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 nearly sick with a cold.
“22nd Tuesday fine dry weather & warm I did my choars choared round the office some at home all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed or 9 ½ or 10 about sick.
“23rd Wednesday fine hot dry weather I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 nearly sick & tiered out.”
