Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 26 - July 2, 1873
“26th Thursday fine hot growing weather I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick.
“27th Friday fine hot dry weather I did my choars choared round the office some closed up at 8 and went to bed at about 10 nearly sick & tiered out.
“28th Saturday A fine hot day & dry I did my choars choared round home some closed up at 8 & went to bed at 11 nearly sick & worne out Mrs Stone & a lady from Oak Parke came at night in the stage & stayed all night, they played croca till after 9 Hurlbot Willard had Fredenhagans sorrel horses run away from him this afternoon down at Staffers watering place with a load of lumber, old Mrs Willard got hurt bad she was on the load.
“29th Sunday A light shower in morning at 7 & 8 some cloudy throught the day but quite fine & hot I did my choars choared at farm some was at home the most of the day writing & all the folks went to Quarterly meeting in J P Garys grove came home about 1 ½ & Gus McKellip & family came with them & eat dinner & went back at 8 & got home again at 15 minutes of 11 at night.
“30th Monday fine growing weather but cloudy & damp I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 10 nearly sick with a cold.
“July 1st Tuesday fine growing weather with showers I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 sick & tired out.
“2nd Wednesday fine showerey growing weather I did my choars choared round the office some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick & tired out Rosa Rogers had a son born this morning the 4th child.”
