Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 28 - April 3, 1872
“28th Thursday fine cold March weather I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 nearly sick with a cold.
“29th Friday A fine cold dry day I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick with a cold.
“30th Saturday very stormey rainey & frozen rain snowed some during this night a disagreeable day & night I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick.
“31st Sunday A cloudy disagreeable day & stormed a little, the ground covered with snow & frozen rain but was some muddy, very disagreeable I did my choars choared round some went to the farm & then went up to Dutch Blisses & back choared round & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] I went to Bliss & back old Mrs Daidy died today about 11 at noon she was 87 years old so said.
“April 1st Monday cool backward weather for April I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold [in margin] My pet cow _______ calved this morning & had a fine red bull calf it freezes a nights and thaws a days.
“2nd Tuesday rather fine but cold nights & warm days I did my choars choared all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 10 nearly sick.
“3rd Wednesday rather warme days & cold a nights & freeze I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick [in margin] Joel Ward man started for Eskanaba Michigan today Nelson Stone started for Nebraska with Crosvi & Dilly.”
