Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 14 - 20, 1872
“14th Thursday cool cloudy weather & muddy in the middle of the day I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] William Warner funeral this afternoon McGregor preached the sermon Mrs Watson got nocked over & hurt pretty bad, by Mr Sage a tin peddler riding his horse against her on the run as she was a comeing from Funeral Sage run his horse Emma Anesworth came here & went against him to funeral & then went back home again with David.
“15th Friday rather a cool cloudy day thawed in the middle of the day I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 sick [in margin] Hoyt Brown came here today from Scott Co this state.
“16th Saturday a cool & some cloudy day freezes hard a nights & thaws a days & quite muddy I did my choars choared round the house & office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 9 tiard & nearly sick with a bad cold etc go to the farm every day [in margin] Hoyt Brown went to Wheaton today.
“17th Sunday A verry pleasant day but cold morning & night thawed conciderable dureing the day & was verry muddy I did my choars went to the farm & worked all the forenoon a cleaning out the cow stables was about tiered out & nearly sick went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] Guss McNelly & Emma Barrus came here and staid to supper.
“18th Monday fine March weather but cold and windy for the season, I did my choars, choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 10 tiard & nearly sick with a cold.
“19th Tuesday cold winter weather for March about as cold as the general winter weather I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] Emma Anesworth came today.
“20th Wednesday cold winter weather I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick with a cold to Wheaton with Perry.”
