Hiram E. Leonard Diary, February 28 - March 6, 1872
“28th Wednesday rather fine weather for winter I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 nearly sick & worne out, William McNelly Caroline Mrs Anesworth & Emma Barrus went out to John Striclands & see them I went up to the farm & talked with Barrus & Charles about feeding out my hay to his horses & he got some mad about it & denyed all of it.
“29th Thursday rather fine for winter I did my choars choared round the office the most of the day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 nearly sick Barrus was more calm & quiot but rather stubborn, he was a selling corn & oats [in margin] Isaac Reynolds second wife died today at about 11 or 12 oclock.
“March 1st Friday pretty fine weather for March I did my choars & choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick & worne out with trouble [in margin] Benjamin Pavers child died this morning a 5 oclock after being sick over a month and suffering a great deal of pain etc Barrus finished selling his corn today & Charles went out to York Center this afternoon.
“2nd Saturday fine weather for March I did my choars choared round more or less all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick & my feelings depressed & lonely. Emma Stone & others watched at Reynolds with the corpse William Anesworth & wife came here & eat dinner late, went home about 2 ½ and carried Wm McNelly & Mrs Emma Anesworth with them Leze Stone Ed Gary Emma Stone & Jane McKellips watched with the corpose or Mrs Reynolds.
“3rd Sunday A cool cloudy day & spit snow some I did my choars choared round some about the house went up to the farm & back & went to bed at about 10 nearly sick & worne out Wm McNelly & Mrs Anesworth came back from Wm Anesworth towards night [in margin] Pavers childs funeral was at the Baptist Church about ½ past 10 or 11 today Elder Potter preached & Mrs Reynolds Funeral was at the Big Woods Meeting house at 11 oclock today my folk all went to meeting at the Baptist hous to the childs funeral.
“4th Monday pretty fine weather for March I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick.
“5th Tuesday fine March weather but cool I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 tiard & about sick.
“6th Wednesday fine March weather but cool I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick & tiard.”
