Hiram E. Leonard Diary, November 28 - December 4, 1872
“28th Thursday fine cool winter weather & some snow I did my choars choared round some closed up somewhere about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.
“29th Friday fine winter weather & verry dry I did my choars & choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about nearly sick Horace Greely died this afternoon a little after 6 oclock.
“30th Saturday A cool cloudy day & snowed tonight about 3 inches, I did my choars choared some closed up at 8 and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.
“December 1st Sunday A snowey morning with about 3 inches of snow on the ground A cloudy day the snow brook out about 3 oclock I did my choars and worked some up to the farm round the sheds wrote some and went to bed about 9 about sick Emma Stone went back to Naperville with the Elder.
“2nd Monday pretty fine winter weather but cold did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with a cold.
“3rd Tuesday fine winter weather but cool & dry I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.
“4th Wednesday pretty fine winter weather I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.”
