Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 28 - July 4, 1871
“28th Wednesday fine weather some cloudy & showers round & grew cold a cold night I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out.
“29th Thursday A cold morning with a heavey white frost but hurt nothing a cold day for June I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick.
“30th Friday rather a cold morning & cool day I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick [in margin] Pollard & I fixed my pump at the paster.
“July 1st Saturday A fine day cloudy in forenoon & fine in the afternoon I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick the boys went to Wheaton & plaid base ball & beat the Wheaton boys Sebe French got home from Country Grafts & told me he collected for grafting this year $833. Wallace went up to Guilds a visating.
“2nd Sunday A fine warm cloudy day I did my choars choared round the house wrote some etc went to bed about 9 nearly sick & tiered out.
“3rd Monday rather a fine cloudy day I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick A T Jones wife had a daughter born this morning.
“4th Tuesday A most beautiful day for the fourth I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick a good many went to Aurora & Naperville to the fourth, they had a fite at Naperville today.”
