Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 12 - 18, 1871
“12th Wednesday A fine cool day for April I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring etc closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiard out.
“13th Thursday rather more pleasant & warm freezes a little every night I did my choars choared round the store all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out.
“14th Friday rather a fine day but cool I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiard out.
“15th Saturday rather a fine day & quite warm in the middle of the day but cold in morning & froze a nights I did my choars was round the office a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out with trouble & forteague.
“16th Sunday A cool cloudy morning and day freezes a nights a little I did my choars, choared round the house all day wrote some etc went to bed at 8 ½ or 9.
“17th Monday fine cold weather for the season I did my choars was round the store a choaring all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.
“18th Tuesday fine but cool raw weather for April I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out.”
