Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 15 - 21, 1871
“15th Wednesday cloudy damp disagreeable weather I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out Billings came from Pennsylvania [in margin] Mrs Stone came here.
“16th Thursday rather a cloudy misty damp day & verry muddy & disagreeable I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring etc closed up about 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick etc Mrs J A Galusha was buried today, funeral sermon preached by a man from Wheaton at the Methodist Church at about one oclock pm Buried in the Burying Ground near Graveses.
“17th Friday rather fine weather but muddy and disagreeable I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 sick [in margin] Kenyon sick.
“18th Saturday rather fine but muddy & disagreeable I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 about sick.
“19th Sunday rather a fine day but cool and cloudy I did my choars was round the office and house all day wrote some & choared some went to bed about 9 nearly sick Mrs Stone here & watched at Sam McKellips last night.
“20th Monday rather fine March weather I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick etc Mrs Stone was here & Frank Wellman left here this morning for Chicago, when he arrived there he heared that his mother was verry sick and he heared today or tomorrow morning that his mother was ded [in margin] court a sitting today.
“21st Tuesday rather fine for March some a sewing grain I did my choars was round the office all day choaring round & closed up at 8 oclock & went to bed at 9 about sick Frank Wellman left Chicago for his father today or tonight to attend his mothers funeral tomorrow.”
