Hiram E. Leonard Diary, November 1 - 7, 1871
“November 1st Wednesday rather a fine day some cloudy in the morning I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9.
“2nd Thursday fine weather for November I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick.
“3rd Friday A fine pleasant day I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] Emma Stone went to Naperville with Joseph Lehmann to a ball Ed Mulnix & Eliza Perry went with them & stayed all night.
“4th Saturday A fine day pleasant day & pretty warm for November I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed tiard & about sick, Emma Stone got home from Naperville about 8 in the morning John Stafferd had 50 dollars stolen.
“5th Sunday A cloudy cool day & looks like rain I did my choars choared round the house some wrote etc went to bed at 9 nearly sick Emma went to meeting, times changed – Nelson was here & gave Emma a wine set by my giveing him a pint & ½ of cherry wine.
“6th Monday fine cool weather for November I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.
“7th Tuesday A fine cool day but some cloudy I did my choars choared round the office the most of the day went up to election started about 1 & got back 3 ¼ Skinner & Bender run for treasurer, Bender got it by about 60 votes, Vallett & Janes for Surveyor Janes got it by about 40 I closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick Nelson Stone came here tonight.”
