Hiram E. Leonard Diary, September 28 - October 4, 1870

28th Wednesday  rather fine but some cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out.

29th Thursday  A cloudy damp morning had been a shower  I did my choars was round the office all day nearly sick closed up at 8 & went to bed at sick & worne out  Mrs Baily had a daughter born this morning  Dr Pratts horse stood at the door when I got up.

30th Friday  rather a cloudy damp morning & day  I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring cloased up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out  I had another attack of desentary got up at 12 oclock at night & was up all the rest of the night till about 8 in morning.

October 1st Saturday  A cloudy damp morning but more pleasant in middle of day & a fine evening & cooler  I did my choars & choared round all day closed up about 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & had been all day, and about sick all the week.

2nd Sunday  A cloudy damp morning but cleared off some & cooler still some cloudy  I did choared round the most of the forenoon, wrote some etc was about sick  etc went to bed about 8 ½, Kenyon went up to Reynolds to see a woman that wished to work for him.

3rd Monday  A fine cool pleasand day  I did my choars was at the office all day choared round etc closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick, Thomas Corlett died this morning about one oclock  Caroline went down to Fort Dodge to see about the land.

4th Tuesday  A fine day but cool  I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick etc  Caroline went from Fort Dodge to lots Creek to Fort Dodge from seeing about farm land  Corlett was buried, Charles Owens started from Iowa [Caroline went home from Fort Dodge.”
