Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 6 - 12, 1870
“6th Wednesday A fine pleasant warme day with a fine shower towards night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.
“7th Thursday A fine hot day with several fine showers in afternoon & some pretty heavy and wet the ground finely I did my choars was at office all day closed up 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with the heat etc ground wet.
“8th Friday A fine pleasant day but some cloudy fine growing weather I did my choars was round the store all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick.
“9th Saturday A fine pleasant warme day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worn out.
“10th Sunday A fine day but some cloudy & looks like rain I did my choars took a nap after breckfust, or in middle of day wrote some & choared some & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out George Sidwell came here from Aurora about 2 oclock or a little before, & stayed all night & was pretty tight, he stayed at D Kenyons.
“11th Monday A fine day but verry hot I did my choars was round the office all day choaring etc closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.
“12th Tuesday A fine hot day & looks like showers I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out, G Barrus was sick tonight & Charles called us up at 10 ½ & thought he was a going to die but he got better soon.”
