Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 22 - 28, 1870
“22nd Wednesday A fine hot day the thurmometer rangeing at 100 in the middle of the day I did my choars and choared round all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.
“23rd Thursday A verry hot dry day & verry dusty, thurmometer at 100 from 10 to 4 a hot night I choared round all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick & worne out Picknick at Carpenters Grove.
“24th Friday A find dry & verry hot day the thurmometer ranged at 102 degrees in middle of day verry dry I did my choars was round house & store all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] Elder Kimball died night.
“25th Saturday A fine pleasant hot dry day verry hot thermometer at 102 in middle of day a hot night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 sick.
“26th Sunday A fine hot dry day & verry dry I did my choars was at the office & round all day choared some wrote some etc went to bed at 9 sick the thurmometer stood at about 100 in middle of day Old Elder Kimball was buried at Wheaton today Mrs Stone wrode out with Lyman Childes of Bristol this evening, they went to J B Clarks & got home about 11 or 12.
“27th Monday fine hot & verry dry weather I did my choars was around the store all day closed up about 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.
“28th Tuesday a fine hot & verry dry day I did my choars was around the office all day closed up about 8 ½ and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick.”
