Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 1 - 7, 1870
“June 1st Wednesday fine hot & verry dry weather & a getting verry dry, I did my choars was at the office all day & choaring round closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½.
“2nd Thursday fine hot dry weather no rain I did my choars at the office & was at the office & round all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] Barrus drew 1000 feet fencing.
“3rd Friday Fine hot & verry dry weather I did my choars & was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & tiared out.
“4th Saturday A verry hot dry day with showers round but a sprinkle here cleared off tonight cool I did my choars was at the office & choaring round all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ sick [in margin] Caroline sick today Stoffer had a meeting in Drulard barn today & night Caroline was sick the most of the day & abed all afternoon.
“5th Sunday A fine pleasant dry day with a cool air from North West, I did my choars was at store above & below all day, a choaring writing etc went to bed about 9 nearly sick [in margin] meeting at Drulard barn.
“6th Monday fine warm weather & verry dry I did my choars was round the store the most of the day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 or so nearly sick & worne out.
“7th Tuesday fine warm dry weather looks like raining day I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] cows went to bull.”
