Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 20 - 26, 1870

20th Wednesday  A cloudy damp misty day  I did my choars round store some shut up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick  Esbon Manville & Town came here to select the third man to arbatrate between the town of Winfield & Col Warren on the road case agreed on D C Brown.'

21st Thursday  A fine pleasant day  I did my choars at the store & was a choaring round all the forenoon & went up look of the road with Town & Brown  Manville & Warren in the afternoon got back at about 6 at night we agree to give Col Warren $350 dollars for his damages on the road towards Wheaton, I shut up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick.

22nd Friday  was at home office all day did my choars & worked a lottery some closed up store at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick, Griffeth work for me on store up above on bedroom began at 7 ¼ & left off early pretty good days work fine hot day.

23rd Saturday  A fine hot day roads dry  I did my choars at store & worked all I could lathing on bedroom  closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick went down to get mair for Ferry at 9, Griffeth worked in forenoon on store above & to Watsons in afternoon.

24th Sunday  A fine pleasant warm day some cloudy  I did my choars at store choared round a little, wrote some & choared round went to bed at 9 nearly sick.

25th Monday  rather fine for winter  I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round & nailed on some lathe etc cloased up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

26th Tuesday  fine weather for April  I did my choars was a choarinng round & lathing the most of the day cloased up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out  Benjamin Paver shot at my dog & Powers five or six times with A T Jones revolver in Walles paster so said by Frank Hammond.”
