Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 13 - 19, 1870
“13th Wednesday A fine warm day I did my choars at store was there all day shut up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick Griffeth worked for me & quit at 5.
“14th Thursday rather a fine day I did my choars was at the store all day & shut up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.
“15th Friday rather a cold cloudy day some frozen rain towards night & evening snowed some enough to make the ground white, I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick etc [in margin] Dudly & Cole took possession of the judges & clerks offices today at Wheaton.
“16th Saturday rather a cold morning with the ground covered with snow but rather a fine day with a cool air a cold night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ¼ nearly sick & tiard D Kenyon & Mr Hudson went to Wheaton, George Sidwell started for Chicago in the stage at 4 PM for to go to Canada.
“17th Sunday A cold & some cloudy day & froze last night some I did my choars & was round home at the store the most of the day went to bed at about 9 nearly sick & worne out I went up to the house near night & back between sunset & dark.
“18th Monday rather fine & roads pretty good I did my choars was at the office all day choaring round & working shut up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick.
“19th Tuesday rather a fine weather & dry I did my choars at store was a choaring round all day worked some on upper part of store shut up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ Wm P Griffeth worked upstairs in store building from 8 in morning to 5-3/4 at night.”
