Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 2 - 8, 1870
“2nd Wednesday rather fine for March I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out Charles Leonard in Chicago.
“3rd Thursday rather a fine day but cloudy & snowed some tonight I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick I had a talk with Abner Stone about my dog this afternoon he denied knowing anything about the dog Charles Leonard arrived in Chicago.
“4th Friday rather a fine morning with about one or two inches of snow on the ground, a cloudy day I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.
“5th Saturday rather a cloudy day I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at about 10 tiard nearly sick & worne out with trouble, Mr G S Warner found my dog under his barn nearly starved to death about 9 in the morning Warners boy heared the dog whine under the barne & went & took hime out & told me & I brought him home, someone put him there.
“6th Sunday A cloudy snowey day about one inch had fell last night I did my choars was at the house all day a choaring round went to the office in evening came home & went to bed about 9 nearly sick etc.
“7th Monday a fine day for March I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble.
“8th Tuesday pretty fine weather I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.”
