Hiram E. Leonard Diary, October 19 - 25, 1870
“19th Wednesday rather cloudy damp cold weather I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out Mrs Julia Spader had a daughter born tonight or tomorrow morning.
“20th Thursday ________ fine I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out etc.
“21st Friday A pretty fine day & more muddy I did my choars was at the office & choaring round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick Wm P Griffeth worked here from 8 AM to 5 PM on my stairs & cistern Nelson was here at night.
“22nd Saturday rather a fine day & more mild I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tird out, Griffeth worked for me from 8 till 4 PM on stairs the most of the time Nelson was here night.
“23rd Sunday a real fine day & quite warm I did my choars was up stairs the most of the day fixing winders etc fixed my cider & went up to the farm to Barruses near night came back & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.
“24th Monday fine weather but dry I did my choars was around the office all day a choaring I closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out [in margin] Kenyon went to Geneva at court.
“25th Tuesday a fine day but dry I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 ½ went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out Wm P Griffeth worked at covering my stairs, eave spoutes & cistern [in margin] Kenyon went to Geneva to court.”
