Hiram E. Leonard Diary, January 27 - February 2, 1870
“27th Thursday rather a fine winter day but cloudy & cool I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 nearly sick etc, Caroline Willson & Wallace got here today noon started from Fort Dodge yesterday morning got at Junction this morning at 2 oclock Old Mrs Barras Jane & some of the children here to ___________.
“28th Friday fine winter day I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick and worne out with trouble & fatigue Barras Jane & some of the children here [in margin] spelling school.
“29th Saturday rather fine weather but cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick Jane & some children at supper.
“30th Sunday About 3 inches of snow fell last night & it is a snowing now this morning cloudy all day & snowed some till after 10, the sun shone out a little before noon & some in afternoon I did my choars was round the house the most of the day went to office about one for Wheeler came back choared round salted my hams & shoulders wrote some etc went to office in evening came home & went to bed about 9 nearly sick & worne out Caroline went over to Barras about 10 olcock in forenoon got home about sunset.
“31st Monday rather fine weather for January I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble.
“February 1st Tuesday rather fine weather I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.
“2nd Wednesday A fine pleasant day, some cloudy near night I did my choars was at the office all day came home 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & tiard out.”
