Hiram E. Leonard Diary, January 20 - 26, 1870
“20th Thursday fine cool weather rough roads I did my choars at office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ was sick [in margin] George acted ______ odd.
“21st Friday rather fine weather I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick & worne out with trouble George Sidwell acted as if he was deranged or something ailed hime [in margin] Robert Millard Jr. stabed himself at Quincy today with a carving knife.
“22nd Saturday rather a cloudy day I did my choars was at the office all day came home & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick, George acted more like himself today _______ acted rather odd singular.
“23rd Sunday rather a cool cloudy day I did my choars was at the house the most of the day went to the office about 4 with R S S Raynolds came back did my choars & went to office in the evening, came back & wrote some etc went to bed about 9 oclock nearly sick George was better.
“24th Monday rather fine for winter I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick & worne out with trouble etc [in margin] George Colling wife had a daughter born today first child.
“25th Tuesday rather fine cool weather good waggoning I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble etc.
“26th Wednesday pretty mild winter weather but cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick & worne out, A cattle droverer got killed by the cars this evening, this side of Aurora, he slipped off.”
