Hiram E. Leonard Diary, September 2 - 8, 1869
“2nd Thursday fine weather for Sept I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.
“3rd Friday fine weather but some cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.
“4th Saturday fine day but quite windy I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick [in margin] J F Pollards carried off his wool.
“5th Sunday rather a fine day but verry windy & some cloudy I did my choars was at the house a choaring round the most of the day a helping make soap etc fixed some fence & put my calves into the paster was at office in evening came home & went to bed at 9 nearly sick Girles went tonight Harvey Barkdolls wife had a son bourn today and had Mrs Jorden to attend on her.
“6th Monday fine weather for the season I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick & worne out.
“7th Tuesday A fine day I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out Augustus Mannings wife she was Frank Grant had a daughter bourn at about 9 oclock in evening.
“8th Wednesday A fine day I did my choars went to office & then went to Wheaton with my Sister, was at office in afternoon came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick etc Theadore Carpenter Philo Carpenters son died.”
