Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 30, 1869 - January 5, 1870
“30th Thursday fine winter weather but cool & cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out from the rheumatism etc.
“31st Friday cool & cloudy snowed a little in evening etc I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out etc Lewis Baly & Jane Rogers were married tonight about 7 oclock by Joseph Hudson Esqr at Rogerses had an oyster supper in evening.
“January 1st 1870, Saturday A cool cloudy disagreeable day & night & snowed some in evening I did my choars was at the office the most of the day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble, rheumatism etc, Mrs Johnathan Coon died this morning about 3 or 4 oclock after being sick a bed for a week or so Meritt Coon is 27 years old today, Mrs Stone Elezar & Nelson were here to dinner & she would not stay to supper.
“2nd Sunday A cool raw cloudy morning had snowed some I did my choars eat breckfust at 10 oclock was round home all day wrote some choared some, did but little was about sick all day had a bad cold rheumatism etc was at office in evening came home & went to bed about 9 sick & worne out, Mrs Coon was buried today in afternoon, Sermon preached by Elder E L Hunt now at Aurora.
“3rd Monday pretty fine winter weather I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.
“4th Tuesday rather fine weather for winter I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble & forteague.
“5th Wednesday fine winter weather getting cold I did my choars was at the store all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick etc.”
